I am planning to enlist in the US Army within the next couple of months and have narrowed down my choice of MOS to about 5, and I’d like to know a bit more about 38W.
I know I could be assigned to an infantry unit or a hospital, but can I choose? Could I tell my recruiter I’d prefer to be attached to an infantry unit instead of being stuck in a hospital? Can that be a condition in my contract?
I’m pretty sure I’d qualify for the MOS, by the way. I’m CPR certified and have taken college courses on First Aid, Nutrition, and Anatomy & Physiology. I also got an 84 on my ASVAB.
Thank you.
Like the others said it is 68w not 38w, im sure you didn’t mean to do that.
Anyways from what i can see you are more than qualified for the job, you even qualify for an enlistment bonus for scoring above a 55 on the ASVAB. Is long as you are medically qualified you can definitely get this mos. You are also eligible for an enlistment bonus as a 68 whiskey (talk to your recruiter about that).
As far as being attached to an infantry unit you worried about, don’t be. About 90% of 68w’s serve as a line medic. Although you might not be guaranteed an infantry unit, you have a high possibility of being put on the front lines in a mp unit, field artillery unit, armour unit, or even engineering unit.
If you were to come on here and say you only want to be put in a hospital not in the field, then i would recommend choosing another MOS.
Even if you do get assigned to a hospital or clinic, your assignment can change after 6th months anyways.
