is it ok to not do intense cardio every day?

im a 16 year old girl and im 5’4 and around 123ish pounds. im pretty much completely obsessed with nutrition and exercise. when my parents wont let me go to the gym to work out(b/c of homework and my dance team practices and things like that)i get extreme anxiety and slight depression, so i work out in my basement as well as i can with weights and strength training exercises and jumping jacks and stuff like that. is this ok? will i lose muscle if its just one day? im obsessed with it and its taking over my life.i am a dancer an we run every day at practice but i feel like its not enough and i eat extremely healthy. please help. i literally feel myself losing muscle when i cant work out.

I have been competing in running and triathlons for over 30 years. Since you are young and recover from workouts quickly, you can get by with hard workouts every day. However, I would recommend taking a day off each week and not work out or just do recreational exercise like walking around a mall or shopping center.

I like to work out every day myself but do a lot of different sports and activities. I have to admit that when I was training for marathons, I would get a bit of nervous energy when I skipped a day’s workout. So I can understand your comment about that.

You used the word obsessive. A bit of controlled obsession (if there is such a thing) is OK but don’t go nuts and over train. Establish a health routine that allows for some time off.
