I wanted to major in piano, but I am not sure what kind of classes i should take in high school. I asked my counselor, and they said taking music theory, music technology, etc. classes doesn’t really affect what music college you go to. Is that true? So If I took music theory 1 and maybe 2 and piano class for my whole high school, and no other music classes, but I play piano extremely well (let’s just say I do), would the piano colleges accept me just from the audition?
Right now I am a freshman with these classes:
1.English hon
2.Spanish 2 hon
3.Health/Lifetime fitness
4.Geo GT
5.Bio GT
6.Us history honor
7.Guitar 1
For sophomore year, I was thinking of taking all GT classes, and continue to spanish 3 honor for my requirement credits, and take piano 1 and a tech class for a tech credit.
Do you think I can get accpeted into a good piano college if I audition well, with a GPA of 3.7+, and I do wrestling and planning on soccer/football and tennis all high school year.
Why would you keep doing wrestling and soccer and football and god only knows what else if you want to get into PIANO college (which might I add, there is really no such thing…)? If you want to get a Music Major / Piano Performance Major, then you should definitely go for music-oriented classes. Typically, you’ll also have an audition if you already play an instrument. How long have you played, and what style do you play in?
