What classes are good GPA boosters?

I really need to boost my GPA if I want a shot in getting to any grad school….at all! My schedule for the Fall is already made up. But I need one for the Spring before I graduate. I have 6 classes to take in order to graduate, all free electives. Rate my Professors seemed to rate all professors of the Spanish, Film, History and Health Depts Highly… Advice needed….

Grad schools don’t just look at your GPA… they also look at what kind of course material you took to get those grades and factor in how easy/hard your courses were. Also, often schools will just look at the courses that directly apply to whatever program you’re applying to. If you want a bunch of easy A courses to boost a crappy GPA because you’ve done poorly in the past, then I really don’t see grad school happening for you in this economy. I watched multiple friends of mine, all extremely intelligent people who graduated with honors or close to it, get rejected from every school they applied to this year.

Also, try not to underestimate courses like film studies and health courses. I went into a course sophomore year called Religion and Film which I thought would be really easy and fun, and it ended up being one of the toughest courses I’ve ever taken. I struggled to get a B- in there, and only after a lot of work on my part. Upper division health courses are usually geared towards people going into those professions, so they aren’t going to be structured as easy courses, they’re going to be difficult and time-consuming.

For boosting your GPA, I suggest looking toward courses that will be interesting and fun for you that have a decent weight on them so that they actually do boost your gpa. The history courses sound like your best bet because you have an interest; regarding spanish… will they really let you take 101 after you’ve already taken 290? Somehow I just don’t see that happening.

Talk to your academic advisor, he/she will have better insight to offer. Also, perhaps try contacting the grad programs you’re interested in to ask what courses they would suggest. My friend is taking community college courses in bio and chem this summer to catch up for her master’s program in criminology despite holding a physics degree.
