Lung cancer, diagnosis and treatment?
How is lung cancer diagnosed? I read that use x-rays (I think) to check the lungs for possible tumors. is the diagnosis? Also what is it? Surgery? Please, if you can explain but not too much detail.
Lung cancer can be detected by X-ray, CT or MRI, but these are not specific to lung cancer. Only may show something in the lung, but could be due to an infection, scars from a past infection or a cyst. Once the cancer is detected, Only a biopsy can be used to diagnose. In a small biopsy needle is inserted through the tissue to obtain a small sample. Microscopic examination of tissue is defined as cancer tissue or the result of another disease or condition. The only curative treatment for lung cancer is surgery and surgery only curative if the cancer is detected early before it spreads. If the cancer has spread outside the lungs, then chemotherapy is used to treat cancer, but does not cure cancer chemotherapy.
