What income supports "are available for pregnant women / young single parents and broke the file / etc in Canada?

No, no – I am not asking for me, I have curiosity as all the programs like WIC that Americans have. Besides the tax benefits are there direct aid? I realize some increase in welfare / disability benefits for nutrition for pregnant mothers and infants, but what're the equivalent (If any) of food stamps and other supports for low-income citizens?

I had a friend several years single mother with two years ago. He had work, but wisely decided to take some college courses. The Canadian Government / Provincial paid by the school and crèche. In addition, the: Government pay for a 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a little spending money on the side. From what I saw, there is a base amount of welfare, but no roof. If a single mother can show / prove that more money is needed, the money is delivered. Extra money should be requested on each occasion. The base does not increase welfare. I'm not stating an opinion, just an observation: single mothers can live very well in Canada. I think there is a strong connection between the attitude of the mother at the welfare office and support you receive. She completed her course and now has a good job, marry, and the child is integrated into society, as well as any other child.
