My baby is a little over 6 months old and he is 20 lbs! He seems pretty healthy, but people with older kids keep telling me that their child didn’t reach 20 lbs until they were a year old! They keep commenting on how big he is and although their comments are things like “ohh I love his chubby legs” and stuff like that, it still makes me concerned.
Is there anything that I could be doing wrong? He is not crawling yet, but he can sit up. When he starts crawlking, do you think his weight will go down or not get much more? I feed him one jar food a day (he will eat an entire stage 2 food if he is hungry enough) but usually he gets his nutrition from formula, as babies his age should. I would say he has about 30ish ounces within a 24 hour period.
I know you can’t really make an accurate assessment without knowing my baby, but I just want to see what people’s thoughts were.
I haven’t taken him to his 6 month dr appt yet, but I have one scheduled for a couple weeks from now.
All babies are different and it’s NOT a problem or cause for concern to have a big baby. 20 pounds is around the 80th percentile for a 6 month old boy, which is absolutely fine. Likely he’ll slow down his growth over the next 6-18 months and ‘grow into’ his weight. Or he may continue to be a big boy. His formula intake is fine, and if he enjoys a little solid food, he can have that too.
If your friends hassle you, tell them that your doctor agrees that he’s doing well, and ask them if, perhaps, they can recommend a good weight loss diet for a 6 month old. I’m sure they’ll then realize how absurd they are being.
