Nutrition Bills In Congress

nutrition bills in congress
please help me in my government homework?

in my government class we are doing this thing called mock congress. my class is pretending to be senators from different states and different committees. For my homework i have to create a bill that helps my committee and benefits my state. i was given the state of new york. i am also a democrat and my committee is agriculture/nutrition and forestry. can you guys just give me some ideas that i could write my bill about. thank you

That may be what they teach you in school, but in real life, you wouldn’t write a bill that benefits just your state. It would never pass a floor vote

In real life, you find a bill that is certain to pass, and attach an amendment to it. For example you find a bill in education, health care, military, that is likely to pass with big numbers, and that no Senator would dare vote against because of public popularity. When you attach the amendment to it, your amendment gets passed along with the bill.

If you have ever heard the term “pork project”, or “pork spending”, that is what it is referring to. It is also why sometimes a Senator will write or sponsor a bill, then turn around and vote against the bill he/she wrote.
