why doesn’t my guinea pig like veggies?

she eats dried carrots and i fed her a strawberry once but i know thats supposed to be like a treat but i also try feeding her spinach,oranges, apples, bell peppers, cilantro, parsley, cucumber, etc and she wont touch it. Her bowl food is Eco Nutrition which has pellets,seed,beans,and dried carrots and she usually only eats the seeds and beans…is this bad??

Alright, I think I know what the problem is.

It’s the bowl food. Guinea pig bowl food should be just straight pellets. It shouldn’t have nuts or seeds or anything in it. Just pellets. What has happened is your guinea pig has gotten attached to the taste of all the fatty things in her bowl food, and doesn’t want to eat anything healthy. Just like a child who eats chocolate all the time isn’t going to want to eat spinach.

You need to go to the pet store and buy some healthy, plain pellet bowl food. Then you need to slowly introduce it your guinea pig by mixing it with the food you have now until the food you have now is gone. Then, you should just feed her the pellets.

Also, are you giving her unlimited amounts of Timothy hay every day. That is an extremely important part of the guinea pig diet. Guinea pigs need roughage, like horses or cows, to keep healthy. Without hay, your guinea pig will get very sick, and possibly even die.

Then, when you feed your guinea pig pellets and hay, vegetables and fruit will sound delicious to her. It will be the tastiest thing on her menu, and she will gobble them on up.

Now don’t think I want you to completely cut out nuts and seeds from her diet. A small handful of sunflower seeds, a few pumpkin seeds, a couple cashews, a few peanuts, etc. make excellent tasty treats for your guinea pig every once in a while.
