I am currently in a DTR program in a local community college, pursuing an associate degree in technology of diet. I plan to transfer to a UMDNJ, a university program online, to get my degree and eventually become a dietitian. I have a definite interest in nutrition and want to help people healthier through diet. However, everything I've heard is that DR does not have much money. Before taking student loans to continue with school, I would ask anyone who works as a dietitian to honestly want to know if it's worth. Where are the best jobs? (I live in the Philadelphia area) How much money is there to gain? Really has no interest in working in a hospital. I prefer to work in public health, WIC programs or Headstart. My teachers obviously told me that the diet is a great field to get into a. I need a honest answer from someone who works as a dietitian. Thanks!

In general, information on education is the most innaccurate, as they tend to minimum list of technical and not really expected of employers. From my understanding, to actually be hired as a dietitian you need a degree master. Jobs can be competitive because not only is one of the large number of facilities, but with the "obesity epidemic" may have more pressure to hire more DR. Where good jobs can be a stroke of luck, a lot of jobs can be opened in an area in a year, then next year nothing.
