Nutrition Elementary School Lessons

What’s a fun an interesting topic to teach to elementary school children?

For the college course I am taking we have to teach 5, 1 hour lessons in an afterschool program. The children will have been in school all day so it needs to be something to grab there attention and that will be very fun. Some topics include insects, nutrition, weather, and stuff about the ocean. My professor told me that that children’s parents expect that they will take something home everyday so I want to do a topic where we can create art pieces. I was looking at space but the trouble I have is what to focus on and teach because I only have 5 1hr lessons.

In second grade my teacher had us do a traveling lesson that lasted a week. We made passports and studied the weather. Our destination was Hawaii so we learned about the island and little things like that. I think she even did a brief “beach/swimming safety” lesson…. like always make sure there’s a lifegaurd, etc. Oh we made hula skirts and did the hula lol. At the end of the week we had a big party outside with little kiddie pools and she bought all kinds of fruit for us to snack on.

I’m a junior in highschool now and still remember it. Maybe you could do something like that?
