Does baby nutrition require milk/formula?Types of formula?
Baby is now six months old and starting on solids. She is still mostly breastfed and gets one solid meal a day. The pediatrician recommended starting her on a second one soon. So far she got some carrots, apple, pear, baby rice-cereal mixed with water, and chicken. I was wondering, if it is essential for baby’s health that she gets breast milk or formula into her cereals (I understand that cow milk is a no-no during baby’s first year.) or would plenty of meat provide her with enough protein? I intend to go on nursing at least for six more months, but the first six months of exclusive nursing were pretty tough on my body and I could do with some less strain. So pumping for the cereal sounds not like much of a relief for me.
If formula is necessary, is there special formula that is less likely to cause allergies than others?
Many baby cereals are add water. As long as your baby is still nursing enough, there is no reason to worry about supplementing with anything extra. If you want to start using formula, any would work.
