In 2 days I will decide my future career, any advice?
My loves. . .Nutrition, health, exercise, art, beauty, exploration, and a little freedom
My needs… security in job, decent salary, and something that brings a new experience everyday, and holidays off!
Focus on employability, not employment. Basically, you want to make sure that every step of the way makes you eligible to get employed somewhere else. That way, when you end up in a job or career that turns out much different than you expected, you can change.
Imagine this scenario: My boss at a warehouse job I held one summer told me he’s an artist. I asked him why he’s not pursuing creative endeavors. He told me that if he had to try and make money from his drawings, he would absolutely hate his life, and eventually hate drawing too. He makes very good money running a warehouse, and pursues visual arts as a hobby. He has stability, income, and time for his passions.
So, before you jump at a career, also consider whether it’s practical. I don’t think any of the loves you listed qualify under job security and decent salary. Some people made successful careers in he health industry, but they were also savvy business operators, not just fit pretty boys.
Also, don’t wimp out. In the current job environment, consider that whatever you chose to do, you will have to give it your all, or the other kid will, and you will be the loser talking about how you tried but failed once. This is the part most complainers don’t grasp. You have to be better than 60% of people out there to be considered good at something. HOLIDAYS OFF? Don’t ever mention that during an interview. The only thing you should say is that you don’t want holidays, because you love what you do, and don’t mind doing it all the time. Of course you’ll get them off with most professions, but it should never be a priority.
