What are the names of the doctors/specialists that health through food/nutrition? (not Nutricionists)?

A friend of mine told me that her mom was able to heal herself from a bad illness through a special diet (macrobiotic). However, I know that there are doctors or specialists who are experts in healing through nutrition and I was wondering if anyone knew the name of these? Nutritionists is not the word I’m looking for even thought they deal with food as well but I’m looking for a more hollistic specialization. Thanks!!!

However, you said “holistic” so I suspect you are referring to Naturopaths, who are often (well, usually) quacks.

Avoid any Naturoquack who claims that the root cause of all illnesses and disease is poor nutrition and/or all diseases can be rectified with nutrition and some fancy diet. Nutritional deficiencies can cause disease, but they are not common in the western developed world.

Don’t let them fool you into believing that alt.med is superior because it, “treats the body as a whole whole” and “treats the underlying cause of disease, not just the symptoms”. In reality, there is no evidence it does either. The quacks always confuse *caring* and *curing*.

There is only one kind of medicine- and it isn’t “alternative”. And nutrition ISN’T alternative. The quacks have co-opted it to support their woo.
