How is there Natural Flavor in my lemon/lime soda?

I was looking on this can of Big K Lemon/lime soda, and it claims to have Natural Flavors, but right above the nutrition facts, it states CONTAINS NO FRUIT JUICE. And these statments are similar with Sprite, and Sierra Mist.

Turns out that the powers-that-be have a pretty liberal understanding of the word “natural”. That means just what you think it does: there really is no juice in your soda.
The rationale seems to be that if you 1) start with a ‘natural’ substance or food –or byproduct of food and 2) use a ‘natural process’ to create the flavor, then it is a natural flavor. As the 2nd article says “…there is a lot of grey area.”
