Nutrition Masters New York
Posted in Health and Nutrition on 12/29/2010 07:49 am by Steven NerenbergShould I become a Registered Dietitian or a Registered Nurse?
I’m about to start my sophomore year in college and right now I’m majoring in BS Nutrition & Health, however I am thinking about doing Pre Nursing courses as a back up at the same time. Should I go on to get my Master’s and license to be a Dietitian or go on to an accelerated nursing program and get an RN after college? Or both? My passion is Nutrition but I am concerned about job and financial security. I’m from New York City so RD’s do get paid decently here but I would still like any advice possible.
In other countries, combining the education of the nurse and the dietitian is popular and will eventually catch on in the US. You could start a the trend in growing the RN’s involvement in nutrition. And yes there are places for this expertise right now especially with specialty doctors, the growing bariatric industry and preventitvie medicine concepts that have yet to gain a position in the US but hopefully will.

As a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist, various opportunities might open up where you could utilize both.
