What is this called? (Related to alternative medicine, natural medicine, herbal healing etc)?
what is the dicipline or what would you call the “counselor” that is
“consulting” people on using nature, specifically plants (plants, herbs, plant foods etc) for general wellnes, health, and healing (for instance eating plant based diet, eating for natural nutrition, using plants and herbs for healing…or “herbal” medicine)
What is this called?
In the US and Australia, people who do this work are called naturopaths. In some states of the US if you’ve trained in this work but don’t actually have a university degree qualification, you may instead have to call yourself a holistic health counselor, health coach or natural health adviser.
In the UK the term naturopath is also used, but ‘naturopathic nutritionist’ or ‘medical herbalist’ (depending on the emphasis of your training) is more common. Some naturopathic nutrition schools include training in herbal healing, but the herbs tend to be common ones with a wide margin of safety. ‘Medical herbalists’ is the term used for people who are trained in the preparation and use of all medicinal herbs.
