Rabbit Query, Help Me!?
A Question, Of Rabbit Breed?
I’ve recently acquired a rabbit from a friend, who acquired the rabbit from their friend.
I have no idea of its breed or species etc,
and was curious if any of you fellows could help!
It is a brown/tan/grey colour, with loped ears and short hairs.
It is about 20cm long (very approx) and has long ears to almost the bottom of it’s ‘chin’.
It would also be great if you could tell me any ‘care’ info I should know about the rabbit -

It is a lop breed, possibly a Mini Lop or a Holland Lop? Hard to say which.
Diet and Nutrition: A quality Timothy-based pellet in limited amounts. Unlimited grass hay (timothy, meadow grass, or orchard grass are good choices), daily variety of fresh vegetables. Additional diet information, including links to lists of acceptable vegetables, is here: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html Make sure you also provide safe wooden items to chew to help keep their teeth to a healthy normal length so they don’t have trouble eating.
Cleaning, care, shelter, tips: Clean your rabbit’s cage daily or every other day. Litter training will help to make this an easy chore. Use a recycled newspaper bedding, or aspen shavings. Pine or cedar shavings can cause respiratory irritation and liver failure (they contain toxic compounds called aromatic hydrocarbons), corncob beddings cause digestive obstructions when eaten, and so do clay-based cat litters.
Rabbits live longer housed indoors (average 8-10 years inside vs 4-5 years outside), if you take the time to bunny proof, plus you will have a closer relationship with your pet. Neutering or spaying your pet will generally ensure a more even temperament, less aggression, and they will be more reliably litter trainable, plus if your rabbit is a female, they have a very high rate of reproductive cancers, so spaying will roughly double their potential average lifespan. Always remember your new pet is a prey animal. Speak softly, move slowly, stick to a routine, and ralize that your pet may not want to be picked up and handled. I find that rabbits are much mre likely to approach you and want attention when you don’t grab them every time they do. Let your rabbit decide when they want attention and when they don’t.
Remember to trim your rabbit’s nails and clean out their genital scent glands about every 4-6 weeks.
