difference between med school and osteopathic med school?
what’s the difference? i am a freshman in college and stressing out about med school..what’s new? anyways, i want to be a sports med physician and my current doctor is a sports med physician and went to an osteopathic med school. does is matter which one i go to?
ps basically i want to be involved in nutrition, surgery, and overall wellness of athletes. i want to have that general knowledge of cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, and the musculoskeltal system.

It doesn’t much matter in terms of licensing. Osteopathy schools matriculants have lower GPA and MCAT scores than matriculants to regular medical schools.
The only bad thing about Schools of Osteopathy is that some of them are reverting back to teaching altmed nonsense, such as “cranial therapy”. Most osteopathic students ignore the quack stuff once they graduate, but they’re obliged to take it while still in school. Unfortunately, the tolerance for altmed in some Osteopathy Schools attracts some students disposed to crackpot woo-woo, so Osteopathy graduates are far more likely than regular Med students to adopt crank treatment modalities such as Reiki, reflexology, homeopathy and other nutcase weirdness.

Actually it can be quite weird. Many DO schools do teach “Cranial Therapy” where the “doctor” puts his fingertips on the patient’s skull and believes he can move magically cranial fluids around to cure diseases like Down’s Syndrome.
