Americans are increasingly aware of the importance of good nutrition, and some researchers believe it can alter your diet to include less meat and more fruits and vegetables. To test this theory, a researcher decides to select hospital records nutrition for respondents 10 years and to compare the average amount of meat consumed per year to the amount consumed by an equal number of subjects interviewed this year. She knows the amount of meat consumed annually by Americans goes from 0 to about 104 pounds. How many subjects that the researcher select for each group if you want to estimate the difference in average meat consumption per capita annual margin of error of 5 pounds with 99% confidence?

When a question is refers to how many subjects or in some other way to say what sample size should be used using the following equation: n = [((za / 2) σ) / B] ^ 2 To explain this, n = sample size z / 2 = Z score value of alpha divided by 2 (alpha be a confidence level) standard deviation σ = B = Bound the estimation error (the "inside X-part units) So we want n = [((Z0.005) σ) / 5] ^ 2 for n = (2,575 x σ) / 5] ^ 2 The researcher must select the number n of subjects mentioned above. Note: I need a value of standard deviation σ. That would be 0 to about 104 pounds? Sometimes we have to estimate σ based on the variable err on the high side. If σ were 104, then n = 2869 (always remember everything when we are looking sample size, because if we have 2868.0000000000001 people, it still requires more than 2868. Can not find σ and put it in the above formula.

Whether or not food passes into the truth of human nature” was among the questions that scholastic theologians routinely disputed. Many twelfth-century theologians, including Peter Lombard, argued that the “truth” of every human body came entirely from Adam, and that food stimulated its growth but was not incorporated into it. Parisian masters in the thirteenth-century rejected Lombard’s position;…
