Poor Nutrition And Pregnancy
Posted in Health and Nutrition on 01/21/2009 12:59 pm by Steven NerenbergSomeone who knows about the placenta/nutrition/pregnancy, can you explain this?
I’m reading my nutrition book on nutrition during pregnancy and I don’t understand what these sentences are saying. Can someone explain them to me? It says:
Placental insults compromise the ability to nourish the fetus, regardless of how well nourished the mother. Placental insults can be the result of poor placentation from early pregnancy or small infarcts associated with preeclampsia or hypertension disorders.
Words I don’t know: placental insults, placentation, infarcts, and preeclampsia.
I’m a nutrition student trying to get ahead start on my reading before school begins. The book i’m reading for my class is called Krause’s Food and Nutrition Therapy.
Placental insults – problems with the placenta
Placentation- initial development of the placenta
Infarct- problem
PreEclampsia- a condition characterized by high blood pressure and protein in the urine that can develop at any point after 20 weeks. the only cure for pre eclampsia is delivery of the baby
What nutrition book is that anyways? There are books about pregnancy that are much easier to read.
